Key Features

Now that we laid down the basics, let’s take a look at a couple of key features 1Password has to offer!

Multiple Storage Vaults

1Password allows you to easily manage sensitive data by using multiple vaults or storage folders. The password manager allows you to utilize this standout filing system from your profile by storing different sets of log-in, password, and other related information and organizing them into separate categories. For instance, you can create a distinct vault where you get to store all data related to your work, and a different one for personal credentials. You can add in other useful documents such as your driver’s license and social security number, and even your credit card details. Install 1Password

Instantly, 1GB of storage space will be given to you when you log into your 1Password account. Families and Business plans will be able to access the shared vault in addition to their personal one. It is worth noting that you can share certain information from your vault with other 1Password users using a generated key. This access key is linked to that user’s e-mail address to ensure you’re in good hands. You can even share with others who don’t even use 1Password through Psst!, which stands for “Password Secure Sharing Tool.”

Travel Mode

1Password’s Travel Mode feature is a great option for anyone who travels a lot and wants to protect their data wherever they go. This is a great tool for whenever you want to hide sensitive parts of your information from customs officials while crossing borders. There are many countries that have different immigration procedures. Some officials might require access to your devices. Travel Mode allows you to choose which vault can be accessed to them.

Only vaults marked as safe for travel will be visible when you turn on Travel Mode in your web account. The feature will not be disabled if vaults aren’t marked. Travel Mode is available on all plans. However, for business plans the administrator user can choose to access it through their dashboard.

Watchtower

1Password’s Watchtower alerts you if your password is compromised, weak, reused or vulnerable to cyber attacks. While you have the reliable tools to remind you if your password needs changing, this isn’t unique to 1Password as many other password managers have this similar feature.

Watchtower’s ability to notify you of the expiration dates on your credit cards and government documents, such as your passport, is what makes it unique. Watchtower includes multi-factor authentication monitoring, as well as expiration notifications. 1P assword will let you know right away which log-in offers MFA for an associated website.

1Password X

1Password X is 1Password’s web browser version available on PCs, with the inclusion of a browser extension that can be accessed through Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Opera, and Brave. Its design and interface are simple and more user-friendly compared to other password management extensions available. It’s also made auto-filing and auto-saving log-in credentials a breeze to handle with!

When you auto-file your Facebook log-in, for instance, all you need is to click the 1Password icon on the log-in field and select any of your saved details to gain access to your account. Through 1Password X’s browser extension, you can select between your recorded identities as well as credit card credentials and apply them whenever and wherever necessary. You can also utilize its features to generate a new password on the spot!

Password Generator

The extension’s integrated password generator allows you to create an optimized, strong password with just one click. With it, you have the option to generate a Smart Password designed to strengthen the security of your account. A Smart Password typically consists of 20 characters and can include a mixture of numbers, letters, or symbols.

There are two options: a Random Password or a Memorable Password. If you want your password to be longer lasting and less susceptible to being stolen, the first option is for you. If you want to create one that’s easier to remember, you may opt for the latter. A Memorable Password may consist of a mix of English words separated by hyphens, spaces, periods, underscores, or even numbers. It may also consist of a PIN of up to 12 numbers.

Privacy cards

1Password can be integrated with Privacy, a third-party payment app. This allows you to create what are called Privacy Cards. Privacy Cards are essentially virtual payment cards that store and protect your debit card details whenever you purchase an item or service online. They replace your debit card number with a set of generated numbers whenever you make a purchase. A combination of advanced payment security measures ensures that your card information will not be compromised in the event of a data breach.

Privacy cards are easy to use and flexible. Each card can be given a unique nickname to personalize it. You can utilize the single-use option, and also set a spending limit on one of your cards – this feature, in particular, may come in very handy if you’re signing up for a free trial without worrying about canceling auto-renewal. Privacy Cards can be useful for managing online payments. However, this tool is only available to 1Password and Privacy users within the U.S. They also do not support credit cards. Install 1Password

Other notable features

You may also want to look at other features that 1Password offers to protect your data, in addition to the ones we have already covered. Clipboard clearing is one of them. This allows you to set a timer that will cause the software to erase all contents, including passwords, from your clipboard. This is to ensure that they’re not leaked out to potential scammers and hackers.

Other notable tools you should look out for include 1Password’s built-in phishing protection which notifies you right away if the website you’re visiting has shady antics, a security breach alert that lets you know if your password has been compromised, and keylogger protection which prevents hackers from using a keylogger, a malware that keeps track of your keystrokes as you type, to steal all your sensitive data.

Pricing Plans

1Password offers four pricing plans, with two of them suitable for personal and family use and the other half geared towards small and established businesses. Each includes unlimited passwords and devices, access to mobile platforms, security tools, Travel Mode protection, and 1GB worth of file storage per person.

The 1Password Personal plan costs $2.99 per month and includes essential password management features such as two-factor authentication and access to a history of deleted passwords. Although there is no Emergency Key feature in this tier, it is sufficient for individual users.

1Password Families, on the other hand, is more suited for families and/or friend groups. It costs $4.99/month and includes all features of the Personal plan. This includes a maximum of five users and five guest accounts. A shared vault, permission controls and account recovery via the emergency key function.

Apart from the home-use plans, 1Password also offers two business-optimized security options and management tools that can be used by business-minded individuals and groups. $19.99 per month for the 1Password Business package includes an additional 5GB file storage per person, VIP support, activity reports, VIP Support, and up to 20 guest accounts.

1Password Teams offers advanced features at a very affordable $19.95. It may sound a lot, but it’s highly suited for expert business teams with up to 10 members. This tier is packed with all the tools found in all of 1Password’s previous plans, plus administrative controls over employees, integrations with Duo for a much more advanced two-factor authentication, and unlimited shared vaults and item storage. Additionally, each of its enrolled members automatically gets a free 1Password Families account. Install 1Password

Ease of Use

1Password makes password management simple. It secures your passwords and personal information and syncs them across all devices, including your phone and desktop. You also get to use all the rest of its features you may expect from most password managers.

In terms of importing log-in and password data, 1Password has made it less complicated to do so. You have the option to import some from other 1Password accounts, or from external password managers like LastPass and Dashlane. This process will require you to use CSV files. Although it may seem less secure, the plain text file is easier to copy.

It would have been nicer, though, if 1Password provides its users a wider range of safer import options to transfer data from other password managers. Overall, it’s easy to put in your password data the same way as exporting them. All data is encrypted using AES256-bit encryption so that you are protected from unwanted activity. Once more, you can also have your access protected using 1Password’s multi-factor authentication features.

Register with 1Password

To set up your 1Password account for the first time, you must create a master password to gain access to all your stored passwords from your online activities. When creating a master password, make sure it is easy to remember and difficult for others to guess. Once you log in with it, you will be greeted with a Secret Key, which will serve as important when you add in a new device or browser extension.

The link to your Emergency Kit will also be sent to you: Apart from the Secret Key, the PDF file contains details such as your e-mail address, master password, the 1Password support e-mail address, and a QR code for a quicker account set-up with new devices. You should keep your Emergency Kit safe and in a place that only you can remember. You may print the copy to store in your secret storage or save the digital file on a separate USB device or hard drive.

Compatibility with Devices

As previously mentioned, 1Password works across many available platforms and devices, each having an easy-use interface, smooth navigation across its security features, and an overall remarkable experience.

It is impossible to overstate the excellent performance of 1Password on all its compatible devices. Windows, for example, supports passwords that have been obtained using the Windows Hello biometric system. This makes it easier to open the user’s computer. On macOS, meanwhile, you can unlock your vault with the help of the Face ID from your iPhone or even your Apple Watch.

No matter where you are or what kind of device you use, 1Password’s slew of password management features will surely help you make your life as convenient as possible.

1Password Mobile App

The 1Password mobile app gives you access to all of your log-ins and saved data across your owned devices whenever you’re on the go. Alternative password options are wholly supported by the manager, including Touch ID or Face ID on iOS and fingerprint authentication, PIN codes, or patterns on Android.

The app setup is easy and quick. Only scan the QR code in the Emergency Kit PDF or the My Profile section to get the app. Install 1Password

Like its desktop software equivalent, the 1Password app’s user interface is easy to use, flexible, and customizable. You can also use the Watchtower feature and enable time-based passwords. This will let you know if your passwords are weak or re-used.

Customer Support

1Password allows users to approach its customer support and resources team in times of need. You get to choose between the three options when it comes to asking for inquiries: e-mail support, its official Twitter account, and the 1Password Support forum. All these, combined, make up for a decent yet more reliable service. For example, the e-mail support can provide you with helpful answers to your questions in a friendly tone. The support forum, on the other hand, is more active and can answer more than 100 questions per day.

You can expect a response from 1Password’s customer service team within 2 to 4 hours if you have a question about 1Password’s tools and features. Despite not having enough capabilities to run live-chat support and phone support, the password manager software’s customer hotline is surely responsive and smooth. 1Password users also have access to valuable learning resources. These include a quick guide to getting started and a list of informative articles and videos. You can also access the full manual that includes everything you may need to know about the 1Password system.

The Bottom Line

Is 1Password the best option? It may depend on what you feel about it, but in our opinion, we believe it may be a great option if you’re ready to set up a legitimate password manager.

Overall, 1Password’s features are extremely well-organized. They all focus on protecting the user from any suspicious online activity. They work as promised. Sure, it may not offer a few tools that may have otherwise been worthy additions, such as extra import options and live chat support, but it’s easy to use – an important factor a perfect password manager should have. Install 1Password

As we’ve mentioned earlier, 1Password comes with a wide range of pricing plans, each perfect for any occasion, whether personal or business-related. There are many packages available, so there is sure to be one that suits your needs.

FAQ Install 1Password

Is there a 1Password free plan?

Currently, 1Password does not have a free version. However, if you want to try out its services for free, you may sign up for a limited 14-day free trial that applies to all plans but the Enterprise package, the password manager’s most advanced yet. Take note, though, that you are still required to write in your credit card details.

If I forget my Master Password and/or Secret Key, can I retrieve my 1Password Account?

1Password does not store details of your master password and Safety Key, so if you happen to forget or lose that information, you will not be able to recover your 1Password account. But if you’re enrolled in a Families, Teams, Business, or Enterprise plan, there’s a chance that your account may be retrieved by the administrator user.

Can 1Password be hacked?

There might be a possibility for a security breach on a massive scale to occur within 1Password. Although the password manager cannot be guaranteed to be secure, it is designed to prevent attacks. Rest assured, however, that all sensitive information in your 1Password account will be protected with the best online security measures.

Why do I need a password manager?

1Password, or any password manager, for that matter, helps store and organize all your passwords and log-in details without the added hassles as you only need to access them with a master password. A password manager is a great option if you are forgetful or have the same password iteration in multiple accounts. Install 1Password
